The company is based in the United States but its products are known around the world for their quality and their design. Located in Portland Oregon, the company has been in the business of providing high quality sporting products, especially athletic shoes for some time. The company's expansion into apparel and sports equipment, then finally Accessories such as the Nike Watch has made them a large, billion company in 2007. With over 30,000 people employed at the company around the world, it is one of the top listed Fortune 500 companies each year.

Nike watches are a significant part of the company, but the company started out under much different means. It was founded in 1962 by Bill Bowerman and Philip Knight, under the name Blue Ribbon Sports. The company's name would not change until 1978, when the company's focus changed. The name comes from the Greek goddess of victory, fitting for a sporting goods company. The company owns and operates under a variety of names including:

The company also holds several subsidiaries including companies such as Converse, Umbro, Cole Hann, Hurley International and from 1995 until 2008, also owned Bauer Hockey or Nike Bauer.

People know Nike by its trademark Swoosh logo. You may know them for their slogan, "Just do it." The company is highly noticeable as it often sponsors a number of unique and talented athletes and sporting teams throughout the world.

Long before the Nike watch began being marketed, the company was doing much different things. The company was founded by Phil Knight who was a University of Oregon track athlete and his coach, Bill Bowerman. At the time of startup the company was a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger, which was a Japanese shoe maker. The company's foundation at that time was nothing more than selling shoes out of the back of Knight's car. The company did not stay at this low end for long, and by 1966 it was able to open its first retail outlet store, located in Santa Monica, California. By 1971, the company was making plans to launch their own line of footwear, and at that time, the Swoosh trademark was being thought up and utilized.

As Nike grew, the lines of shoes and apparel they offered also grew. Over time, they became the leader in the industry in terms of sporting goods. Their launch of Accessories and Nike equipment further pushed the company towards profit goals and innovative designs.

Nike watches are some of the best-known and well-loved watches today. They are sporty, trendy and they are often worn by today's top performers around the world. The company has grown considerably each year, and now sponsors clubs and national teams from countries including The United States, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, India and many others.
